IDAI (Innovative Design for Accessible Interfaces) is a joint laboratory with an international vocation to design and develop models, methods and tools to improve the accessibility and usability of aids for orientation and mobility, assistive devices and support technologies for the inclusion and autonomy of people with disabilities.

The research methodologies of the IDAI Lab are aimed at, but not limited to, the following topics and activities:

a) Application of Universal and Participatory Design techniques for the inclusive co-design of models, systems, frameworks, applications for the Social Good and in particular in the fields of training, health, public and social life to improve the autonomy and quality of life of people with disabilities, promoting a more inclusive environment.

b) Feasibility studies using Agile modeling, Rapid Prototyping and Early Pilot testing of ICT systems and applications in the fields of eLearning, eHealth, eGov, Cultural Heritage, Tourism to quickly evaluate new ideas.

c) Sharing of resources to optimize the development of prototypes, hardware, software, etc.

d) Promotion and support for access to STEM degree courses, offered by the University, encouraging and motivating participation for women and people with disabilities.

e) Promotion and dissemination of the culture of inclusion, accessibility by design, participatory planning, Universal Design in the local and national territory, with communication and training actions, also through the use of social channels.
